Iconic Downtown Indianapolis Bar To Close After 36 Years

It’s hard to miss the giant Marilyn Monroe outside of Ike and Jonesy’s in downtown Indianapolis. But, come 2020 she will no longer be there. That’s because after 36 years in business, the retro bar is closing.

According to RTV6, the Ike and Jonsey’s opened at 17 West Jackson Place in 1983, although Indy Star states it was a year later. The Star goes on to say that the building was sold in 2016 and the new owner bought Ike “Rickie” Eichholtz out of his lease with the intention of opening a boutique hotel.

Ike and Jonesy’s is probably best known for all of its retro decor—a lot of which will be auctioned off to the public on January 3.

Ike himself has no plans of retiring and hopes to stay in the bar business. He told the Indy Star, “It’s been an absolute delight serving Indianapolis residents and visitors. It’s been a joy.”
