The Arthritis Foundation Golf Outing to Benefit Kids with Arthritis

Indianapolis – The Arthritis Foundation, Indiana Chapter will host its annual golf outing Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at The Fort Golf Course. The Fort is located at 6002 North Post Road in Indianapolis.
Lunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m.
Registration for golf is $150 for singles and $600 for foursomes. Registration includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and beverages. For more information please call Tammy Sander at 317-879-0321 ext. 207. Arthritis is the nation’s most common cause of disability. There is currently no known cure. Nearly 1.4 million adults and 3,000 children live with arthritis in Indiana alone. Prevail’s 19th Annual Golf Classic set for May 14 at Fishers
The 19th Annual Golf Classic to benefit Prevail Inc, of Hamilton County, a victims awareness and support program, will be held at the River Glen Country Club in Fishers on May 14, 2008 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The mission of Prevail is to provide advocacy, awareness, support services and education to individual victims of crime and families in crisis. In 2007, Prevail served 4,144 clients. “There continues to be a substantial need for Prevail’s services in Hamilton County,” says Loretta Moore, executive director of Prevail, Inc. “Proceeds from the event will provide vital services to victims of crime, as well as individuals and families in crisis in the Hamilton County area.”
There are multiple player and sponsorship opportunities available for the 19th Annual Golf Classic. The cost to be an individual golfer is $150 which includes lunch, dinner and mulligan or to play as a foursome is $600. Sponsorship packages are available for holes at $250, beverage carts and the putting contest at $500, lunch at $1,000 or dinner at $1,250. Raffle and door prizes are also being accepted.

Morgan County Fallen Officers Memorial Fallen Officers Memorial 5k Run/Walk

It is once again time for the Morgan County Fallen Officers Memorial 5K Run/Walk. This is a 5K Run/Walk through the beautiful countryside. There are 3 events, 5k Run, 5k Walk, and 5K non-competitive stroll. 1st and 2nd place awards will be given in multiple age divisions as well as an overall winner for men’s and women’s in each event. Cost is $15 in advance or $18 the day of the event. This event is held every year in conjunction with the National Fallen Officers Memorial week in mid-May. The proceeds from our event have been used to help build a memorial at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department honoring officers who have fallen while in the line of duty in our county. There are currently three officers on the memorial. Future proceeds will be used to form a scholarship for individuals pursuing a law enforcement degree.
In addition to the 5K run/walk, the United Way Youth as Resources Committee has organized a Youth Run for Literacy. This is for elementary school children and younger. It is a ½ mile run. All participants will receive awards and t-shirts. Cost is $5 per entry.
This years run is scheduled for May 17 at 7:45am. The event takes place at Liberty Christian Church at 2010 Liberty Church Road in Martinsville, IN 46151. You can find entry forms, www.Mag7RaceSeries.com, or at the Morgan County Sheriff’s department in Martinsville.
This is the fifth year for our event and we are hoping for the biggest year yet.

We had a successful first show last May with nearly 100 entrants including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and even a tractor. We gave away some outstanding trophies, including the Principal's Choice that was over 5 feet tall! Each of our classrooms will pick their favorite entries too. It is a great day of fun for the whole family. We have a great concession stand and lots of activities for the kids to do as well.

Kick-off summer right by being at Eagle Creek Park Saturday, June 7, as an expected 400 children, ages four to 14, converge on the banks of the park’s coffer dam to partake in one of the nations largest Fishing Derbies – exchanging their video game controller for a fishing pole.
The 7th annual Kid’s All-American Fishing Derby presented by the Eagle Creek Park Foundation, in conjunction with area Wal-Mart stores, runs from 8am to 12noon. This is free event – no park or event admission will be charged to participants and an Indiana fishing license is not needed.
Pre-registration is required and the event is limited to the first 400 to sign up. Registration forms are available at the Eagle Creek Park Office, 7840 West 56th Street, as well as on the Foundation website-www.eaglecreekpark.org.

Indianapolis - The Arthritis Foundation is seeking walkers to participate in the Arthritis Walk on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at the NCAA Hall of Champions. The event is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature event that takes place in communities nationwide to raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation’s number one cause of disability.
The free event features both a three-mile and one-mile course, with activities for the entire family. Participants walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis, while those with arthritis wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. Pet owners are invited to bring their leashed dogs to walk with them at the event.

This exhibit will run from June 14-22, during regular Earth Discovery Center hours (Monday thru Saturday, 9am to 5pm; Sunday, 1pm to 5pm). The show is free with regular park admission ($5 per vehicle).
This exhibit will showcase some of the best artists in the Midwest in the categories of watercolor, watercolor pencil, pastel, chalk, pencil, charcoal, sculpture and pen and ink.
Artists will be on hand to discuss their work, demonstrate techniques and share colorful stories.
Show entries will be for sale as well. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these art pieces will help support future art exhibits at Eagle Creek Park.
Each weekend, various artists will give classroom workshops for the public to follow along and learn new techniques. Sign up and bring your own supplies or just come to watch! A list of supplies needed is located at the Earth Discovery Center.

The Caring Center/Project Help assist with feeding and clothing of local families in need throughout the year. Boone County Mental Health Boone aids people affected with mental health related problems in the Boone County area.
