Glen Sayler of Peru was fishing for catfish with raw chicken soaked in strawberry Kool-aid last Monday when he got the surprise of his life. The angler snagged a fish he had never seen before, one with a mouth full of teeth! The retired fire fighter took the fish to local office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, who identified it as a omnivorous South American fresh water fish related to the piranha!! The red-bellied pacu is common in rivers and streams around the Amazon, An Indiana conservation officer said it was probably dumped into the lake by someone who had given up on caring for it. The conservation officer also noted that these fish are extremely invasive, so it was a good thing it was caught. The fish is now keeping residence in a 125 gallon aquarium at a bait shop near the lake. See the full story in the Kokomo Tribune.
