Hey it’s Kevin ….
We talked about this during Friday’s show: I agreed to pick up my grand daughters at preschool. Of course, this required me to follow the rules of the carpool lane.
1) Pull into the turnaround on the south side of the building (stay in one lane).
2) Have the placard with your child & teacher’s name displayed in the vehicles front window (passengers side).
3) 10-12 cars will be loaded at a time. The front
car will pull up to the end of the sidewalk. Loading will be done along the sidewalk side only.
4) A white lined area is painted on the drive for loading. Do not cross this line.
5) Turn off your vehicle’s engine (no idling).
6) Adults will need to get out of their vehicle to load children rain or shine. A teacher will deliver your child at your car.
7) Once back in your vehicle, drivers may not pull out until all
10-12 cars are loaded and directed out by a staff member.
So, there I was. I got to the school about 10 minutes early in an effort to watch the other parents pick up their kids. I figured I couldn’t fail playing follow the leader. The plan was to blend in with the crowd.
But that backfired! I didn’t have a clue what was going on, because I was too busy trying to follow the rules that I wasn’t following the rules! The school principal met me at my van and presented me with a rookie sign and sunglasses. I had to wear them while Kaylynn and Emma did the walk of shame to my car.
Some things never change.
Just like I did to their mother’s 20 years ago, I embarrassed my granddaughters. Some traditions never die!
Let’s hope I only have to pick the kids up once!
