Make a Perfect Mint Julep

The Kentucky Derby is this weekend, and no derby viewing party is complete without the official drink of the race, the Mint Julep.  You wanna roll like the high rollers at Churchill Downs?  Here’s the recipe they use at the track, using my favorite bourbon, Woodford Reserve.

Woodford Reserve Mint Julep

  • Serves 1
  • 2 ounces Woodford Reserve
  • 1 ounce water
  • 4 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Crushed ice

Directions

  1. In a copper julep cup, rub two pieces of fresh mint around the cup to express the oils.
  2. Add Woodford Reserve, then the water and sugar and stir with a bar spoon.
  3. Add crushed ice to the top, then garnish with four sprigs of mint.

Enjoy responsibly!
