Even if you haven’t heard of her, Halsey IS one of the biggest names in music right now. Her new album Manic is coming out next week and she just released the third single from it. It’s called “You Should Be Sad” and while I wouldn’t call it country, it definitely has some Nashville vibes.

Which shouldn’t be surprising because she performed with Lady Antebellum during the CMA Awards and NAILED it. So, she decided to pay tribute to her childhood idol, Shania Twain, in the video for YSBS.

I didn’t catch the other references at first, but as soon as I saw the leopard outfit I was like, wait a second. Not only did she don the cat print, she also did the bouffant and little black dress.

And she didn’t stop at Shania. She threw in a Carrie Underwood nod with her “Cry Pretty” inspired make up.

In fact, the whole song was kind of inspired by Carrie.

She also wrote the tune after spending a lot of time in Nashville.

Community over competition.
