ACM Awards To Ditch This Category In 2020

ACM Awards

Initial voting for the 2020 ACM Awards has begun, and one category is noticeably missing from the list.

According to The Boot, this year there will be no award for New Duo or Group of the Year because apparently there are no eligible acts. There are a few different requirements/guidelines that determine eligibility.

Once a lead single is released from an artist’s third album, they are no longer eligible. Additionally, the duo or group has to have had a top 40 Billboard or COuntry Aircheck hit and they can’t be nominated twice in a three year period.

But wait, there’s more! They also can’t have gained their fame from a genre outside of country AND they can’t have won Entertainer of the Year, Group or Duo of the Year or Artist of the Year before.

This is actually the sixth time this award hasn’t been presented. Previous years where this has happened include 2015, 2014, 2012, 2005 and 2004.
