Ever have one of those moments when you discover something new, as in, new to YOU, but you learn it’s been around for a while? You begin to wonder, ‘How am I just learning this exists?’
That was me a few months back when I met a friend for lunch and we tried the ‘Thai Tea’ on the menu. I’m always game for trying something new. I wasn’t convinced I would love it, and really just wanted an ICED tea, but when given this option by our server, I thought, ‘Why not?’

Five minutes later, I was googling the ingredients of this creamy, refreshing and slightly sweet beverage! Not only had I never tried it, I had also never HEARD of it before! I was so intrigued that I came home and tried to recreate it in my kitchen. Not bad, but I will leave it to the experts. (Note: You can substitute the sweetened condensed milk with coconut milk, just know that your tea won’t taste as sweet.) The beverage is served hot or cold.
Have you enjoyed a Thai tea in your lifetime? Did you know it was a ‘thing?’
If not, give the recipe below a try and let me know what you think! I won’t claim that it’s life-changing, but it’s CLOSE.
Enjoy!
THAI ICED TEA
Ingredients
- 6 cups Water
- 1/2 cup Thai Tea Mix (My friend used regular black tea, for the record)
- 1/3 cup Granulated Sugar
- 4 Tbsp Sweetened Condensed Milk, add more to sweeten to your liking
- Ice
Instructions
-
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan or tea kettle.
-
Remove saucepan or kettle from heat. Combine hot water with tea mix and sugar. Stir.
-
Cover and allow tea to steep for 15 minutes.
-
Strain tea and allow it to cool completely.
-
To serve, pour tea over ice. Stir in sweetened condensed milk, adding more to sweeten to your preference. (The creamier the better if you ask me!)
-
Ask yourself where Thai Tea has been all of your life. Amazing!
