It’s a New Year, and my resolution is to think positive in 2016! I’m dreaming of a big Powerball win, even though reality says my chances of hitting the now 500 million dollar jackpot are about 1 in 292,201,338. A HALF BILLION DOLLARS??? Yes please!! Since I’m so upbeat these days, those crappy odds won’t deter me. Experts say that when you DO hit the jackpot, there are certain things you should do before you rush to post a pic of your winning ticket on Facebook.
- Sign the back of the ticket. That prevents someone from taking your ticket and claiming it as their own.
- DON’T TELL ANYONE! Or at the very least only tell a trusted few. Staying anonymous is best. You can even protect your identity by forming a LLC or non-profit organization first. (see step #3)
- Assemble a money management team (that doesn’t include your friends) Consider hiring an estate planner, a certified financial planner and an accountant before claiming the ticket. Be sure to carefully check the fees each charge before signing on the dotted line.
- Adopt a disc jockey. I’ve always wanted super rich parents! Remember folks, dream big and play responsibly!!
