Remembering Former First Lady Barbara Bush

Barbara Bush represented all that was good in our world.

She stood for what was important in life: Family, friends and living in the moment. She reminded us to laugh. To find joy in every day. To cherish our human connections in a world where we often take them for granted and don’t make relationships a priority.

Mrs. Bush wouldn’t want us to trade conversations for a text message for the simple reason that you can’t text a hug or a handshake.

During a 1990 commencement speech she delivered to Wellesley College in Massachusetts, the former First Lady told graduates to ‘believe in something bigger than yourself.’ Great words for young adults about to embark on their future, and proof that she believed in the selfless act of giving back. She also shared that ‘success as a society doesn’t truly depend on what happens inside the White House, but what takes place inside our homes.’

Former First Lady Barbara Bush believed that the relationships we build will be the most important investments we make in our lifetime. Such an important reminder for generations to follow.

The essence of her spirit is what we will remember and hope to pass along to our own children. Rest in peace, Mrs. Bush. Our thoughts are with your family.
